The Scioto County Auditor is the chief fiscal officer and the tax assessor of Scioto County. As the chief fiscal officer, he is in charge of accounting for all money received by the county and issuing warrants (checks) for paying all county debts. It is also the responsibility of the Auditor to supervise the county funds and keep the official records of disbursements, receipts, and fund balances. In addition, the Auditor also distributes real estate and personal property taxes, gasoline taxes, fines, local government funds, etc. As the tax assessor, the Auditor is responsible for fairly and uniformly appraising and assessing more than 50,000 parcels of real property for tax purposes within Scioto County. According to Ohio Law, the Auditor should make a general reappraisal of all properties every six years with an update every three years. The detailed record of the appraisal is maintained by the Auditor and is open to the public.
