Union County Property Tax
The property taxes are calculated by multiplying the assessed value by the total tax rate. The assessed value is 35% of the market value which is established by the Auditor. Then this gross tax is multiplied by the district reduction factor to get the reduction credit. The net amount of taxes is gotten by deducting the reduction credit from the gross tax.
Tax bills are normally mailed out by the County Treasurer in January and June each year. If you do not receive your tax bill, please contact the Treasurer’s office immediately.
The first half of the property taxes is normally due in mid-February and the second half is due in mid-July. Late payments will charge a penalty of 10% of the unpaid current taxes. For payments received within 10 days of the due date, the penalty is lowered to 5%.
